AllSaints Warehouse Sale Review 1/12

12 January 2012

The first ever All Saints Warehouse Sale began yesterday in SoHo. Perhaps taking the initiative after seeing the huge success of American Apparel’s Warehouse Sale (which has already been extended twice), they decided to wrangle up some old duds collecting dust and put them on display for All Saints fans, which are plentiful in and around New York City. With a noon start time, there was only a few stragglers waiting around for Day Two of the sale to begin. Surprisingly, a line never gathered despite the 70% Off Everything offer, and a comfortable crowd browsed the downstairs racks of women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories. Perhaps due to poor advertisement, or perhaps due to the lack of variety, I was surprised to find the employees outnumbered the shoppers. Coming from stores all over the Tri-State, employees were the best manikins sporting their own All Saints look, however only few winter items were on sale aside from coats and jackets (yes, leather jackets, I’m getting there).

With no dressing rooms and only two mirrors, size is a guessing game. Remember, All Saints is a European brand, therefore all clothing is in UK sizes (a four size difference). I was disappointed over the lack of sweaters – there were a few thin cardigans, including the Worm Rib Cardigan marked down to $42. The majority of the racks were full of summer dresses, which were beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but it’s hard to envision what you’ll want to wear come June when it’s still hat and scarf season. The one thing All Saints prides itself on is their extremely well made and durable clothing. This is certainly true for the dresses, the bundle of material makes them original; a piece that will last you for years. My favorites of the group include: Carnolia Dress in Washed Black ($59), Madras Gilet Dress ($98) and the sleeveless Elisa Dress with a huge, thick collar full of fabric.

Something to be certain to hit up is the wall of denim. I was sure to talk to a few employees and they all assured me that All Saints jeans run tight, there for definitely go a size up even if you are certain of your waist measurements. With four different fits on display (Runner Fit, Boyfriend Fit, Pipe Fit and Carrot Fit) and a variety of washes, there is definitely a quality pair of denim with your name on it. The accessory table was lacking jewelry but had some great braided leather belts for $25, as well as $12 tanks and T-shirts.

Here is the moment you’ve all been waiting for – All Saint’s Leather Jackets that are, yes, 70% off! With the original price ranging from $450-$600, which make these buttery jackets no more than $180 a pop with the average being $140. All hell broke loose when the men carried in the heavy racks, shoppers interrupting them as they tried to pull a few off the hangers before they were able to reach the salivating leather-hounds. Even thought there were only a few customers around, everyone was there for the same reason. The best styles were quickly snagged but I overheard an employee say that they plan on replenishing daily, until stock depletes, at their noon opening. I grabbed a few of the leather jackets to inspect and died over the black Kaito Leather ($156) and its batwing collar, as well as the Brocade Military Jacket in a murky gray color. The most sought after of the rack was a black studded Gaga-esque motorcycle jacket, with patches sewn on its sleeves, but I couldn’t even get near that beauty before it was scooped up.

The shoes were nothing the gawk at, not compared to the leather jackets at least, but I was pleased to find their famous distressed sneakers (that resemble Converse) on sale for $16 for low-tops and $18 for high-tops.

In knowing the hefty cost of a regular priced item at All Saints, the All Saints Warehouse Sale is worth a browse if you’ve been dying to own something (anything!) from the brand. If you’re not crazy over their designs (or a vegan) perhaps you should pass this up for something better – or make a second stop at the American Apparel Warehouse Sale before they pack up and leave come the end of the month.
