Alexander Wang Sample Sale Review 8/3

Let me begin by saying Alexander Wang is my favorite designer. I would go to the ends of the earth for his discounted ready ware. His line exemplifies my ideal fashion: comfy yet chic threads made to make you feel and look good. With that said, I wasn’t thrilled with today’s sample sale on 97 Mercer.

Alexander Wang Sample Sale ReviewSlouchy hipsters sucking on American Spirits stood behind waifish models with arms akimbo as they braved unpromising skies, waiting impatiently at their chance to dive into the unusually tailored (in a good way) ready wear and ‘T’ lines by Alexander Wang. Only few were let in at a time, causing the line to swell down Prince Street, but all kept calm, except those lucky enough to be the first inside.

After checking your bag at the door, you pass through the unfairly small men’s section, where pouting male models sift through their few options. Then comes the mania of boxes that rest amongst neatly arranged hung clothing, where the same five shirts are repeated throughout their heaping pile. I wasn’t impressed by the $35 price tag for the “T’ line’s classic, baggy shirts and tanks, when last year they were only $20. After looking through merely every box of tees I was hard pressed to find a size small, rather most popular shirts appeared only in XS, M, or L. I thought this was a sample sale?

Some pros and stand outs are T’s blazers for a low $100, $35 shirt-dresses, $60 knit hoodies, chunky rose patterned sweaters for $160, and $180 runway statement dresses.

The clothing is priced by sticker color, starting at $35 and working it’s way up in increments to $260 (some pieces with the color ‘yellow’ are priced as marked).

Don’t forget to head downstairs. The aroma of leather wafts through the air as you feel the buttery soft texture of Alexander Wang’s notorious bags. The bags range from $250 – $400, depending on size. To the right of the bags are the over-dramatic, chunky shoes, which promise to make your outfit. These sky high boots and heels range from $170-$300.

The clothing seems to be replenished throughout the day, and since there seems to be an over load of the same thing, I wouldn’t stress yourself with getting there tomorrow when the doors reopen.

Please don’t forget to hit up the ATM beforehand ladies! Otherwise you’ll be forced to make the $200 credit card minimum.

WHEN: 8/3 – 8/7; W (3-8), Th-Sat (10-7), Sun (10-4)

WHERE: 97 Greene St
between Prince and Spring Sts.
