AEFFE Sample Sale Review 4/27
New York City sample sale shoppers are likely used to one of two extremes when searching for bargains on a weekday morning: either there’s a line around the block to get in or the place is abandoned. The current AEFFE sale, however, is somewhere in the middle – pleasantly bustling, but not so crowded you can’t see the clothes.
And what clothes they are! Prices aren’t rock bottom, but for the beautifully tailored investment pieces on offer, they’re not half bad. A lipstick red Moschino Chic & Cheap top ($236) is both corsetted and draped, making it a curvy girl’s best friend. Or maybe you’re more of a loose-fitting type. In that case, don’t miss a mustard Alberta Ferretti Moroccan style tunic ($258), which would simply kill with a pair of slim white trousers.
Looking to add some romance to your life? A thoroughly dreamy Alberta Ferretti Swiss dot blouse with organza ruffles ($419) has your number, as does a to-die-for cream chiffon draped dress ($956) by the same designer – guaranteed to bring out your inner Greek goddess. For the hipper set, there’s a great selection of Love, Moschino: we drooled particularly hard over a well-cut 40s-style dress covered with tiny paw prints ($105) and a tweed number livened up with rhinestones ($298).
The back room houses bags, which are, unfortunately, a cheap-looking nonstarter, as well as shoes. We spotted a great pair of red patent leather Studio Pollini flats for $280, but most shoes were in disorganized messes of piles. Really, the only reason to venture into the back room is to check out the Liberty print bathing suits ($145). Fortunately, with the caliber of hot deals in the front, the back isn’t even necessary.
