Smokey Eyes in Green, a Better Spring Alternative

Today I was very pleased with my makeup look. I feel it encompassed the perfect blend of transitioning from the lingering cold winter weather into the airy spring I’m anticipating (even if it’s in my head). I was inspired by the fact that I wanted to play around with a smokey eye, but daytime right before April doesn’t lend itself easily to wearing a dark black smokey eye without drawing odd looks. (Read: you’ll look ridiculous and will be mocked.)
Since color is what we’re embracing right now I picked green eyeshadow. Apply it over your lids (not in the crease as you would with a brown shadow), blending it from the lash line up. You can decide if you want it super sheer, or more pigmented. Just layer until you like what you’ve got. Shiseido has The Makeup Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow in Green Exotique that has a little bit of shimmer. You can get this from Sephora ($23.00).

If you know what you want your green eye shadow to be very green and highly pigmented I recommend the brand Hard Candy. They have great greens in the names: Mildew, Green Goddess and Vert. All of those would be good choices. You can get these at Sephora ($16.00).

Another high-pigment brand that delivers intense colors is MAC. I really like their eye shadow in Swimmingly. You can pick that up at bloomingdale’s ($14.00). It’s a powerful, clear green. Use a sponge applicator for this particular MAC shadow.

So how does the look come together? (Yay, now I’m thinking of that Beatles song.) For daytime, just slick on some clear, or pinkish gloss, and use one coat of black mascara on your upper lashes to compliment this smokey green eye. To upgrade this look for night you can use a black or brown (or even gold) eye liner.

Take your time to work with blending the shadow in, or it will look sloppy. No one likes a sloppy eye. Now, bat those lashes and give flirty looks to passers-by.
