Oriental Garden Restaurant and Sunday Nolita shopping
, New York, NY
I went here for my tennis party. I brought tennis- inspired fortune cookies and little racket key chains inside Chinese food take out boxes, and it was adorable.
Oriental Garden looks like a bad 40’s or 50’s reception hall complete with round tables and carpeting. They have fish tanks. They have gold accenting…everywhere, and they have, in my humble opinion, the best dim sum in Chinatown. Saturdays and Sundays are a madhouse at Oriental Garden, but if you are in the mood for a bit of wait, it is the perfect accompaniment to Nolita shopping or a late afternoon stroll over the Brooklyn bridge. Spring is the prime time to get our New York in before we head east for weekend beach retreats
The Dim Sum is delicious complete with pictures of everything you can order. The dumplings and sticky rice are the best I’ve found – so sweet, so yummy. I’ve lived a block from Canal for going on six years now, and it’s my go to Dim Sum spot.
If you can’t stand a Sunday line, try it out on a weeknight. The seafood is delicious and the servers can help you with what is fresh for the night. I’m continually drawn to the shrimp with broccoli and glazed almonds and the cod.
