Runway Make-Up: Fall 2010
, New York, NY
Categorizing Fall 2010 Fashion Week’s runway would be like categorizing the animals in a zoo. Yeah, they are all animals, but the variations run the gamut from wild and exotic to subtle and subdued. Marc Jacobs asked Francois Nars to base his model’s make-up look on a Nars peach lipstick called Barbella. Jacbos’ look, mirroring his return-to-home theme, was otherwise cool coloring lids with varying shades of gray and applying thick wet mascara on an otherwise neutral facial backdrop. Softer, but still distinct (as opposed to el natural) make up looks also prevailed at shows like Adam, Thakoon, Brian Reyes (right), Tahari, and Narcisco Rodriguez (less his darkened brows).
DVF, Jeremy Scott and Peter Som took more dramatic approaches. DVF’s model’s eyes looked like a sparkling caterpillar recently became a butterfly. Peter Som painted his girl’s lips deep plum, and Jeremy Scott and Philosophy built their looks around black eyeliner. So while the runway looks appear slightly more unified by chaos, military influence and more lurid hues, we still have make-up to express our individuality and get our color fix.

I loved the looks Bobbi Brown did for the Brian Reyes collection. Both are chic and sophisticated
