Made of Puff Stuff
, New York, NY
As is so often the case, interior design and fashion happens to converge in my world constantly and so explains how I happened to step into a Daffy’s for the first time last night. I first heard of the discount retailer during their fall contest that touted a lease to a $7,000/month West Village pad at the bargain basement price of $700 as a prize. Lucky for my bargain shopping (read: cheap) self that I remembered Daffy’s as I was clad in my L.A. winter-appropriate garb (and therefore appropriately a popsicle) in desperate need of some retail therapy. (No. This isn’t my first winter in New York. Yes. I am just that cheap that I refuse to buy something I can only wear 4 frigid months of the year.) I popped into the discount retailer’s 18th Street outpost to trade up for a puffed jacket without having to pay North Face prices.
Lucky me as they had just gotten a new shipment of stock earlier that morning. Everything from bomber-inspired to knee length puffed jackets lined the floor in all sorts of hues. There was a silver bomber jacket-inspired puffer by Censure (a label I couldn’t find even with a Google search and thus probably why it was just $14) but that I passed on as I can’t quite pull off silver lame. Then I fell in love with a snow white puffer ($60) that was elasticized at the waist for a peplum effect before realizing that it would turn the color of day-old slush in my hands. I ended up snatching up this simple black number from Dollhouse selling for a doable $20. At that price, I could afford to change my mind
