Jeggings
The marriage of jeans and leggings.
, New York, NY
We embraced leggings. We embraced skinny jeans. Then jeans married leggings, and voila! This season, widen your wing span as we embrace the masterful combination of both: jeggings. Jeggings, eh hem, denim-esque leggings, have been creeping their way from suburban London, through the BK and to our concrete jungle for the past several years. Stretchy like leggings but made of elastic denim, jeggings feel snug avoiding the misfits of regular jeans.
Shops like Built By Wendy and Goldy & Mac in Park Slope carry unique versions of jeggings. And up until last year, you had to boutique shop to find them. Then Kate Moss waved her magic wand over Soho and up popped Top Shop. Top Shop has a whole section devoted to jeggings with different washes (indigo, stone washed, tye dye, black), styles and fits. There are jeggings with stir-up and jeggings with pockets. It’s jegging heaven. Beyonce wears jeggings and so does Lily Allen. LiLo was spotted in jeggings as was Mary Kate Olsen. From biker to boho, they are a versatile addition to your fall apparel palate.
My wonderful editor said she wasn’t a fan of the idea or wasn’t a fan of my portrayal of the idea and certainly wasn’t a fan of jeggings in general. Sure, I get it. It’s a hideous word for a debatably hideous piece of apparel. However, if you rock leggings and skinny jeans, you may want to give them a try. That’s if you can wrap your mind around it.
