Thai Me Up
, New York, NY
So we can go to sample sales to save on designer frocks but how can we have a fabulous girls night out at a glam spot without going for broke? This is the kind of stuff I think about while strutting around town.
Luckily the answer fell into my hands when a gal pal text me, suggesting tapas at Kittychai. Tapas can be shared without feeling cheap or cheesy and they’re always less than an entree would be so you can share a few and have cocktails for less than a usual dinner at such a posh location.
This dimly lit, cozy dining room is super comfy but has a mystical, exotic element that had me planning my return before the food even came to our table. A large pond filled with koi and orchids suspended above is the restaurants breathtaking centerpiece. Everything here is beautiful; the decor, the food, even the beverages. I ordered a concoction that had actual slices of kiwi and cucumber (amongst several liquors, of course) in their oddly shaped cocktail glass. It was so yummy and so pretty that I could’ve drank them all night. A friend order a bevvie with actual crushed grapes- it looked like a drinkable lava lamp.
The tapas were magnificently presented as well, and even more delectable. We sampled the banana blossom and artichoke salad, tuna tartare and tiger prawns. All were so delish and so filling that we didn’t even have room for a coffee on the walk home.
This spot would also be ideal for a date thanks to the moody lighting, dishes designed to be shared, and large cushioned booths, perfect for getting close (wink, wink).
Kittychai is on the ground floor of the Sixty Thomson Hotel in Soho at 60 Thomson Street. Click here to reserve your table now.
