Elie Tahari Fall 2010 Sample Sale
A one-stop shopping for a certain kind of woman
, New York, NY
Think of the Tahari sample sale as one-stop shopping for a certain kind of woman: one who’s conservative enough to wear a just-shy-of-prim dress to work each day, but daring enough to show a little leg at night. You know: the kind of woman Project Runway contestants are talking about when they say that their collection is designed for a woman who owns an art gallery. And at these prices, even an entry-level curator can stock up.
A brilliant orange cotton pencil skirt ($59) gets punched up with a gold kimono-like ruffle down the front. Gold, as a matter of fact, appears in a number of dresses, skirts, and tops – after purple, it’s probably the color most present and accounted for. This being Tahari, there’s no shortage of chic shift dresses (all $99), in patterns both muted (a purple-based floral that wouldn’t look out of place on Michelle Obama) and kicky (cheetah!). These relatively staid basics lie hanger to hanger with minidresses ($129) you can imagine Blake Lively sporting on a red carpet: lots of cleavage, lots of leg. One warning: leather jackets ($279) are satisfyingly buttery, but at $199-279, coat prices aren’t really better than you’ll find at Loehmann’s or Burlington Coat Factory.
WHEN: 10/19 – 10/23, T-F (8:30-7:30), Sat (10-5).
WHERE: 510 5th Avenue (Entrance 43rd Street and 5th Avenue – Ground Floor).
