When You Wanna Be Safari Chic, Here's How

I talked about the Safari trend for Spring/Summer 08 in a recent Jewelry post. Let’s continue our discussion into apparel.

What can you wear with some of the bolder safari jewelry? Something basic in a clean color works best. I really love the shape of the Michael Kors Safari Shirtdress ($1,595.00) from Neiman Marcus. Need some sunglasses to complete your look?
If you’re not keen on a dress, cargo pants are back and worth a wear. Try the TWILLTWENTYTWO Ravenna Twill Cargo Pants ($140.00) at Nordstrom. A structured, belted shirt is another choice for those looking to go on the prowl. The minute I saw it, I fell for the Trina Turk Randy Safari Jacket ($298.00) also at Nordstrom. Style tip: I don’t think I’d pair these together, it’s trend overkill.

Banana Republic has an entire section devoted to safari style. The outfit with a silk giraffe print halter and khaki button-down skirt is subtly glamorous, and probably my favorite ensemble that they have featured.

The number one style tip for the safari trend is to make sure you don’t look like you’re wearing a costume. You want to wear the modern trend, not look ridiculous.

If you’d like to try the trend, but don’t want to commit fully (hey, we’ve all got our commitment issues!) I recommend the Stella Mccartney Short Safari Jacket ($1,595.00) at Neiman Marcus. This belted trench is something you can wear year after year without looking dated.
